Rye Community Information

Convenient Location

Though Rye is perfectly situated along the Long Island Sound, for residents who commute its accessibility to several major highways makes the 23 mile drive into Manhattan or the 37 minute express train-ride from Rye Railway Station to Grand Central Station convenient. Furthermore, Westchester County Airport is nearby, while LaGuardia and JFK International Airports are less than an hour away.

Restaurants & Shopping

Rye’s charming downtown center consists of spotless streets lined with lush trees and a collection of gourmet restaurants, coffee bars and specialty stores. The many restaurants range from informal bar and grills to three and four star Italian Ristorantes and French Bistros. The world famous La Panetierre is located in Rye. Nearby White Plains is home to Neiman Marcus, Nordstroms, Saks, Bloomingdale’s, Fortunoffs and numerous boutique shops at “The Westchester.”

The district’s three elementary schools are consistently recognized as New York State Schools of Excellence and Blue Ribbon Schools by the United States Department of Education. Rye High School has a 20-acre Gothic campus and is located within walking distance of town. 98 percent of Rye high school graduates go on to some of the nation’s most prestigious colleges and universities, including all of the “Ivy League” schools. Students have an opportunity to participate in Yale’s Model United Nations and have received over 300 scholarships, awards and other honors including three finalists in the National Merit Competition and 10 National Merit Commended Students. Rye students of all ages benefit from low student-to-teacher ratios and eminently well-qualified staff and faculty members who are experts in their respective fields. Two universities in the immediate area are the Manhattanville College and the State University of New York at Purchase. Additionally, there are several hundred universities, colleges, junior colleges, and specialty schools within the New England area that cater to the needs of students of all intellectual levels.

Stretches of sandy beaches with panoramic water views provide refreshing escapes during the summer months. The Rye Golf Club, formerly a private club, is available to residents for a very reasonable fee. It has an 18-hole course adjoining the Sound, an Olympic pool, two baby pools and the refurbished “castle” clubhouse, which offers a gourmet restaurant. The Rye YMCA has been recently renovated and provides state-of-the-art facilities.
